Golden Ratio

What is Golden Ratio?

. It is mathematical ratio of 1.618:1 , the Greek letter " Ψ " (Phi) represents the Golden ratio .
. It is used to create pleasing, natural looking compositions in design work.
. It describes the perfectly symmetrical relationship between two proportions.
. Also called Golden Mean/Phi Ratio/Fibonacci Ratio/Divine Ratio.
. Many things found in nature have parts that are in ratio of 1.618:1
. A structure is said to be in Golden Ratio if it satisfies:

Creation of design in Golden Ratio:

. Fibonacci sequence is similar to Golden Ratio.
. Begin with square of length from Fibonacci series i.e., 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,....so on.
. Go on adding the next square to form a rectangle called Golden Rectangle.
Assume a=8, b=5, then 8/5 = 13/8 = 1.61

Examples:

Flower petals
. Sea Shells
. Human Faces
. Spiral Galaxy
. Pyramids
Art
. Furniture Design
. Classical Buildings
. Logos
. Books, web

How to use Golden Ratio?

. In designing web pages, relationship between content area and slide bar must be in ratio 1:1.618
. Web page Header, content area, footer, navigation can also be designed in Golden Ratio.
. Always crop images in Golden Ratio for pleasant view.
Book length/breadth=1:1.6

Outcomes of using Golden Rule in designing:

. Layout looks perfect and natural.
. It balances the content.
. Helps to make decisions in spacing and arranging elements.
. Attracts users eye.
